Job description
The Claims & Safety Specialist prioritizes the investigation and resolution of claims while supporting safety and compliance work that keeps drivers qualified and the business running smoothly. This role blends investigative thinking, customer-facing communication, and an understanding of how safety decisions, follow-up, and documentation affect cost and risk.
You will manage claims from first notice through closure by verifying facts, asking thoughtful questions, and following issues through to completion. You’ll work closely with drivers, insurance carriers, vendors, and internal teams to build relationships, resolve issues, and support safety and compliance efforts that impact the bottom line.
Claims & Investigation Responsibilities
Reduce open claims through consistent follow-up and timely closure
Verify details, ask clarifying questions, and investigate discrepancies
Collect, review, and organize accident and incident information, including work orders and unreported events
Maintain structured claim files and documentation directories
Submit initial notice of claim to insurance carriers and other involved parties
Open, track, and actively manage claims through resolution
Review driver involvement and supporting documentation
Obtain repair estimates, coordinate repairs, and track completion
Invoice responsible parties, track costs and billing, and follow through on collections
Safety & Compliance Support
Support the Safety team as needed to keep drivers qualified, equipment compliant, and issues from escalating. This includes ownership of documentation, systems, follow-up, and coordination across safety-related processes.
Work within and manage multiple safety-related systems, including claims platforms, ELDs, event recorders, and related software
Maintain accurate driver and equipment qualification documentation, including DQ files, employment verifications, DOT compliance records, drug testing, hours-of-service documentation, inspections, logs, licenses, and permitting
Coordinate safety-related equipment needs, including ELD swaps, event recorder orders, and inventory tracking

Full ownership of all open claims without reminders
Fewer open claims over time due to steady resolution and follow-up
Builds trust through results, leading to increased dollar authority for claim settlements and resolution decisions
Drivers remain qualified and active because safety items are handled proactively
The Safety Director spends significantly less time handling claims and follow-ups
Clear systems exist for tracking, documentation, and follow-up
Strong understanding of how safety, compliance, claims, and costs connect across operations

Job requirements
Experience & Skills
Experience in trucking, safety, or legal or police investigations and claims is a strong plus but not required
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Comfort working across multiple systems and tools
An IT or systems background is a bonus, especially for supporting safety technology
